K-6 Educational Programs

Stan the Can Man Visits the Recycling Center

A slide show presentation introducing students to the general concepts of curbside recycling using Stan the Can Man. Stan the Can Man is a solid waste character! He is a trash can man who only eats trash.no recyclables! Recyclables give Stan an upset stomach! Stan is a big fan of recycling because it keeps the recyclables out of his trash!!!! Stan the Can Man will come along to make this presentation lively!

The Great Recycling Adventure

A slide show presentation introducing students to the concepts of recycling and integrated waste management. Based on a coloring book story, the characters Juan and Michelle take a magical tour of solid waste facilities in a flying wheel chair. Motivates students to be active in their own recycling adventures!

Recycling 101: The Integrated Picture

This program provides an introduction to recycling and the role of recycling in solid waste management. Information about the importance of recycling and the recycling programs that are available in Northwest Arkansas will be provided to attendees.

HHW Jeopardy

Following a short informational presentation on Household Hazardous Waste, students will apply what they have learned by playing this classic game show. Students will learn what HHW is, why it is dangerous and how HHW should be disposed.

Solid Waste Education

A general introduction to what solid waste really is.  Provides information about the Boston Mountain Solid Waste District and the services offered. This program is good for any adult group, and can be used for high school and college classes.

Illegal Dumping in Northwest Arkansas

Arkansas the Natural State has an unnatural problem. Packed full of illegal dump photographs taken in Northwest Arkansas, attendees will learn what illegal dumping is and the health and environmental hazards that are created by them.

Household Hazardous Waste

Most households have some type of household hazardous waste (HHW). This program will teach attendees what HHW is, why we should be concerned about it and how residents of Northwest Arkansas can dispose of their HHW.
